Call for papers

The 8th Annual Conference on the Social Scientific Study of Religion in China:

Theme:   “The Spiritual Capital and Public Goods”

Dates:               July 1-2, 2011

Place:               Fuzhou University, Fujian, China

Suggested topics:

1. The Spiritual Capital and Social Capital of Entrepreneurs

2. Religious Belief and Social Service Voluntarism

3. Religious Belief and Civic Virtues

4. Religious Organizations and Social Enterprises for Public Goods

5. Religious Exchange across the Taiwan Strait and Social Identities

6. History, Theories, and Methods of the Social Scientific Study of Religion

         Other topics will be considered. 

Important dates:

1.      March 15, 2011: deadline for submitting abstracts (please include Title, full name, email address, affiliation and position, and the abstract in about 250 words)

2.      April 15, 2011: acceptance notice;

3.      June 1, 2011: due date of the full paper;

4.      June 30, 2011: arrival

5.      July 3, 2011: departure

Registration fee (scholars living outside mainland China): $100 (USD) or ￥660 (CNY) in cash upon registration on site.  This fee covers conference proceedings and some meals during the conference.

Hotel: Yishan Hotel (i.e., Academic Exchange Center of Fuzhou University: 577 Gongye Road, Fuzhou, Fujian, China), the room rate is from $30 (Standard Room) to $40 (Deluxe Suite).  An English-speaking student volunteer will assist the hotel reservation for international scholars.

Nearest Airport: Fuzhou Changle International Airport.

The Eighth Annual Conference is co-sponsored by the Center on Religion and Chinese Society at Purdue University, the Institute for the Study of Buddhism and Religious Theories at Renmin University of China, and the College of Liberal Arts of Fuzhou University.

Abstracts, papers and presentations may be either in English or in Chinese.  To propose a presentation in English, please send your English abstract (about 250 words) and a short bio-sketch (100-200 words) to: crcs@purdue.edu.
